Mitsubishi L200

A pickup heritage stretching back 40 years certainly helps Mitsubishi, and the latest L200 demonstrates a strong hand in almost every discipline.

This sixth-generation model of the Mitsubishi L200 comes with dramatic new looks, offers additional safety equipment and is fitted with a smaller engine.

Mitsubishi’s response to customer feedback is to make the L200 look more aggressive for this model, which turns out to make it look more like other Mitsubishis that feature the ‘Dynamic Shield’ design language as well. The angular foglights and narrow, high-mounted headlights give it a very intimidating appearance from the front. All variants sold in Ireland use the five-seat, double cab body style, one of two different four-wheel-drive systems and the new engine. Mitsubishi calls the new four-cylinder lump a 2.2, but with a 2,268cc capacity it’s closer to 2.3 litres in size. Maximum outputs are modest, at 150hp and 400Nm.

The primary thing you notice straight away about the L200 is its serious off-road ability. It feels extremely capable. All versions other than the more basic Business model get Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system, which is fully selectable and should, in conjunction with the chunky standard mud and snow off-road tyres, get you out of any difficult situation. Buyers in Ireland can choose between two manual variants of the L200, the Intense version and the less expensive Business model. It costs about €1,250 to upgrade the Intense with an automatic gearbox, while the L200 Instyle at the top of the line-up gets it as standard.

The new Mitsubishi L200 has been built for Maximum stability and traction, and is more rugged, solid and robust than ever before. Reliable 4WD traction combines with an advanced suspension to keep you in touch with surface conditions so you stay in firm control. New Off Road mode improves traction when driving off road with the ability to select between Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand or Rock settings.

Dynamic shapes as well as a high-quality finish create an interior space that offers both comfort and driving pleasure. The sculptural centre panel and connecting console feature a colour LCD multi-information display and soft padding in the seating areas offers a luxurious and sleek appearance.

The 5 seater 2.2 DI-D Instyle 6 Speed Automatic L200 has a wide variety of safety features including Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS), Auto High Beam (AHB), Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Hill Descent Control, Active Stability & Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist, a Birds Eye Multi Around View Monitor and much more.

The L200 combines the demands of pick-up life with impressive road manners, strong equipment levels and competitive pricing. Safety has also been improved too with more advanced kit on offer.
